Samuel Ames, Sr., known fondly as “Monk” passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Milton & Hattie Kutz Home, Inc. in Wilmington, DE. He was 100 years old. He was born on May 12, 1916 in Melfa, Virginia, the son of the late Samuel Bagwell and Wes Ames. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Mildred Mason Ames on August 13, 2003. Samuel had a love of horses and trained them for forty-five years which included working with the Alan Myers Farms and traveled with the horses as they went from place to place. One of his favorite past times was spending time with his daughter, Dorothy watching Steve Harvey. He is survived by seven children, Samuel Ames, Jr. and his girlfriend, Janette Powell, of Salisbury, William Ames, Eddie Ames, Peggy John, all of Seaford, Dorothy Gilbert and her husband, Willie of Wilmington, Kenneth Ames of Laurel, and Samuel Floyd of New Port News, VA, a sister-in-law, Frances West of Selbyville, 17 grandchildren, and a 19 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren, and a special caregiver, “Bald Head” . He was preceded in death three children, June Seymour, Mary Frances Brown, and Willie Mae Jenkins. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 11, 2016 at 1 p.m. at United Deliverance Bible Center with Pastor Keith Wongus officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
