Verna Elizabeth Gilkey of Silver Spring, passed away at the age of 98 on September 5, 2018 at Shepherd’s Glen Assisted Living in Taneytown, Maryland.
Verna was born on August 10, 1920 in Washington, D.C. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Irma Clark.
She graduated from Central High School in the District of Columbia. She worked for and retired from the federal government at Walter Reed Army Hospital in the office of the Hospital Treasurer. She was a member of Forcey Bible Church for over 50 years, rarely missing a Sunday. She loved planning and participating in all the activities of the Senior Adult group.
She had a wonderful reputation of being a "prayer warrior" as she faithfully prayed each day for others.
Verna is survived by her son, Harley Husted and her daughter-in-law Paula of Woodbine, MD, 3 grandchildren Kelsey Burdette and husband Cliff of Eldersburg, MD, Kent Husted and wife Carey of Sterling, VA, and Kim Miller and husband Cary of Fredericksburg, VA, and 6 great grandchildren, Charlotte Burdette, Audrey, Molly and Emma Husted, Drew Miller, and Devin Miller. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters Dorothy Duley and Lorraine Schulte, and by her brother Royce Clark.
Verna’s life will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Forcey Bible Church, 2130 E. Randolph Rd., Silver Spring, MD. A viewing will be held at the church on Wednesday from 10am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, MD.
