Victoria “Vicki” Berry Stansbury

RIDGELEY, WV – Victoria “Vicki” Berry Stansbury died suddenly on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital after suffering a massive stroke.

She was born in Washington County, PA, on September 7, 1949, to John and Martha Berry and grew up in Morgantown, WV, attending St. Francis and Morgantown High Schools. Her father worked for Montgomery Ward department store, and her mother was a teacher at St. Francis School. Vicki then attended Fairmont State University from which she earned an RN degree.

Vicki worked in Morgantown, and after marrying John Stansbury, MD in 1974, she worked as an operating room nurse in Lexington, KY, until they moved to Cumberland, MD, in 1979.

Surviving are her husband of 44 years, John Stansbury, MD; and sons, Robert Stansbury, MD and wife, Becca, and Ryan Stansbury and wife, Kristin, both of which reside in Morgantown, WV. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Isaac, Avery, and Corinne, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, who she adored. She was frequently the babysitter in Morgantown and Ridgeley, WV, and the kids knew they would have a great time with their Gigi. Vicki also wanted to acknowledge her best friends, Nancy Hodges, Kathy Growden, and Betty Harvey and her personal physician, Dr. Shakil.

She was known as an excellent cook and made many gourmet meals and cookies. Vicki loved local high school sports and was a long time season ticket holder for WVU games. She was very athletic herself as she competed in and won in her age group the Rocky Gap Triathlon and other 5K races in her younger years. She loved the outdoors – hiking, skiing, and walking several miles per day up until her death. She really enjoyed spending time in Canaan Valley in the family cabin.

In accordance with her wishes, Vicki’s body will be cremated. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, MD, on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 1 to 3 p.m. A memorial service will immediately follow at 3 p.m.
