CUMBERLAND – Virgil Raymond Twigg, 84, went to his eternal rest with his Lord and Savior on June 18, 2019, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Virgil, the first born child of Norman Twigg and Marie (Stallings) Twigg, was born in Spring Gap, MD, on September 6, 1934. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Ruth Twigg; and his brother, William “Billy” Twigg.
A 1952 graduate of Fort Hill High School, Virgil continued his education in banking and worked in that field for over a decade before switching to life insurance, and finally to real estate. Virgil was the owner of Twigg Realty for over 30 years.
Virgil was a proud member of East Gate Lodge A.F. & A.M., Cumberland Scottish Rite Bodies, and the Ali Ghan Shrine. He was a parishioner at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities for over 60 years. Virgil was also a member of the South Cumberland Businessman’s Association, the Cumberland Elks, and was a certified Master Gardener with the Maryland Gardeners Program.
He is survived by sisters, Betty (Ronald) Grabenstein, and Virginia Cessna; children, David Twigg Sterling, VA, Susan Moore (Jeff), Short Gap, WV, and Michael (Tori) Twigg, Elizabethtown, KY; step-children, Carol Shaffer, Jeffrey Morgan (Karen), and Jan (Ray) Shamblin; grandchildren, Jennifer Snurr, Michael Twigg, II, Ashley Hawbaker, Kevin Malone, Carol Lee Femi (Lou), Frank G. Watson (Jessica), Christopher Shamblin (Christie), Jared P. Morgan (Elizabeth), Brynn E. Riggins (Andrew), and J. Drew Morgan (Tasha); as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Friday, June 21, 2019, from 2 to 5 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Rob Pierson officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
