Born February 17, 1932, in Nikep, MD, he was the fourth of eleven children, and the first son of the late Vernard Francis and Kathleen (Rafferty) Winner. Born July 5, 1945, in Cumberland, MD, Gene was the son of the late Earl Eugene Slider, Sr. and Rebecca (Mullenax) Slider. Gene was a United States Army veteran.
