CUMBERLAND – Arthur F. “Art” Breighner, 83, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at the Cumberland Healthcare Center.
Born on March 18, 1935, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Welton Francis and Alma Elmira (Smith) Breighner. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard W. Breighner and wife Polly; and sister, Alma E. Dutton and husband Frank.
Art was a 1955 graduate of Fort Hill High School. Following graduation, he served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. He was a member of the Wiley Ford Church of the Brethren. Art was an avid Fort Hill High School football fan. He enjoyed putting his garden out every summer. When he was able, Art was always willing to help anyone who asked. He will be greatly missed by friends, and especially by his family.
He is survived by his wife of 61 and ½ years, Alice Jeannette (Riggleman) Breighner; daughter Krista Thompson and husband Bill; many nieces and nephews; and three grand-dogs.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff and therapy department at Cumberland Healthcare Center for the care given to Art.
Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Wiley Ford Church of the Brethren, 3 State Street, Wiley Ford, WV, on Thursday, January 24, 2019, at 1:30 p.m. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family has requested that, in lieu of sending flowers, those wishing to honor Art’s memory do so by making contributions to the Wiley Ford Church of the Brethren, 3 State Street, Wiley Ford, WV, 26753.
