Cumberland—George T. DeVore, 83, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cumberland, MD, on March 12, 1935, he was the son of the late Nellie May (Topper) and Raymond E. DeVore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Rick DeVore; and his brother, James DeVore.
George was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1955. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp Reserve Unit. George was a route salesman for Pepsi Cola Bottling Company until he retired after 39 years of service.
George was a life-member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching baseball and football.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judith Anne (Wilt) DeVore; children, Tammy Anne Mullenax and husband Roger, Flintstone, Rusty DeVore and wife Mary, Johnstown, Rhonda Sheally and husband Todd, Cumberland, Shawnee Spitzer and husband John, Cumberland, Rob DeVore, Cumberland, and Randy DeVore and wife Brooke, Cumberland; grandchildren, Lucas Miller and Shi Wilson, Tad Miller and wife Crystal, Christina Tippen and husband Erik, Tiffany DeVore and Heather Ware, Ashley DeVore and fiancé Kyle Yoder, Sabrinia DeVore, Danielle Sheally, Josh Weimer, Ryan Sheally, Ashley Spitzer, Gwinn Spitzer, and Jarrett DeVore; great-grandchildren, Trinity, Cayden, Avery, Paige, Reagan, Zachery, Bradley, and Leyah; and sisters, Ruth Galford, Cumberland, and Edith Greathouse, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 from 3-7 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 1 P.M. with Pastor Jim Jeffries officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be accorded by Ft. Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
